I have delayed posting a new owl count for quite some time as I was trying to send out positive vibes and honestly I was so busy working on the issue that it was pushed aside. But unfortunately, I have not observed any owls since Jan 14th on the Kiper Homes' Blue Ridge development in Antioch, CA. With my observations extending well over a year, it is quite disheartening to see this parcel of land transform from a booming owl community to a mere ghost town.
Although these owls may be gone, the work to preserve this magnificent species will continue throughout the East Bay and at the State level. Continue to monitor this JournOwl for the latest information on a push to change Fish and Game eviction policies that are contributing to owl population declines.

It sounds too good to be true. Owls returning to the habitat from where they had just been evicted. Owls re-establishing themselves just in time for breeding season and able to contribute to a declining Bay Area burrowing owl population. Incredible!
