Oh Those Whimsical Owls
Having jumped head first into the world of burrowing owl conservation I can tell you it is not always a picnic. Like any movement to ensure the protection of threatened species, it is easy to get beat down at times by, for lack of a better term, the opposition. It really is an unrelenting beast that can overwhelm and drag one down if you’re not careful. Yeah, the rewards are nothing less than soul redeeming, even if it’s just a small win, but it is important and necessary to keep the fire going. That means taking time to put aside the human-induced turmoil for a bit and simply enjoying nature being nature.
And that leads us to a great aspect about this job calling. We get correspondence and assistance from individuals all across the world. In fact, many times we are completely unaware that people are lending a hand. For example, I just discovered a few days ago that an individual/Etsy Store (Tiny White Whale) was donating a portion of their owl magnet (Molly, Ashley, Carrie Magnet Set) sales to the Burrowing Owl Conservation Network. Wow! I’m speaking with a little bias, but check them out and buy a set for $10…it’s for a good cause of course and we can use your support.
And since I promised whimsical owls, it’s only appropriate that I deliver the goods. We recently received a note from photographer Mac Stone in which he shared with us a video he created displaying the antics of burrowing owls in South Florida. So let’s take a moment to remove ourselves from the rat race and enjoy this video of nature being nature. And THANKS for everyone’s support!
