.: Project- Antioch Burrowing Owls :.
July 23rd
I had intended to keep a snippet of details regarding the plight of the Antioch owls in this section, but as the battle heated up early in the year I lost track of posting new details. This was especially true since I was trying to keep a valid "owl count" from prying eyes; owls returned to only be evicted again. Well, as of July the burrowing owl and ground squirrel population has remained at a disheartening zero.
Although things are bleak for "my" owls, I am happy to say that my burrowing owl conservation activities have moved to the next level within the city, county, state and nation because there are more colonies that are in dire need of assistance.
With that said, keep an eye on Journowl.com and head on over to a new organization that is dedicated to turning a declining population into a thriving population.
We want to hear from you! Take a moment to rate us and/or provide a review at any of the following sites. By the way, we have just joined FaceBook so how about a follow?
I was passed the following video via a sea turtle listserv and thought I’d share some real-life CSI action with everyone. NOAA Marine Forensics- “Investigators in Puerto Rico were tipped off that an organized ring of poachers was selling turtle meat on the black market. This evidence was used to convict the turtle poachers on charges of illegally fishing and selling the meat and eggs of an endangered species.”
Wildlife advocate, conservationist and simply captivated by marine life. Currently working to complete a full life's circle...beginning with a love of wildlife biology opted instead for a degree in microbiology and molecular biology, became a research biologist, returned to school for a degree in environmental sciences/fisheries & wildlife biology, and as of today I am still on my journey...which I am glad to share!

It’s amazing that these resources are being used in this way. It certainly makes it much harder to hide criminal activity. I’m putting this in my best of the web this Saturday. It’s so cool. Thanks for sharing it.
I completely agree. I have a background in micro/molecular biology as well as enviro so I love it when the two worlds collide. I’ll be sure to check out your best of the web on saturday. Cheers!
CDFG Suppresses Conservation Measures for Burrowing Owls
A government cover-up. Policies established that cater to industry. A few officials pulling the strings. Millions of dollars at stake. And a lone report that trades hands under the cover of night exposing the plot. We have all seen fictionalized stories unfold at the movies...
